School firin' up and other tidbits of no interest.......

So next week (Sept 19) the fall quarter will be firing up at Bethel. I am stupid excited about this quarter. I am taking OT101 (Genesis - Ruth) and NT 103 (Hebrews - Revelation). I just re-read that sentence and realized that I'm taking the first 8 and last 9 books of the Bible. Kinda like watching the first half of Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace and then bustin' out Return of the Jedi at the Ewok battle on Endor. Should be interesting AND should hopefully provide more fodder for this here blog. Given the title is "I-am-not-my-own" I am trying to keep it as non-narcissistic as an arrogant, sinful bastard like myself can and there ain't much happenin' right now that ain't all about ME. Hopefully when I get into class I'll have some God inspired things to write and not a bunch of "look how neat Cory is" stuff to write. But we'll see - I tend to think I'm pretty neat.

One thing that is also firin' up is the new curriculum for the high school ministry at my church. We are doing small groups and I will be helping out with the freshman. Won't lie - I'm terrified. Anytime I have to like really care about something other than me it is always horrifying. Especially when the thing I have to care about is a bunch of punk high school kids you can't relate to. Two things I've learned thus far about working with high school kids: 1. Most of them are smarter than me. 2. I have no idea and care nothing for the things they are into. Hey, worst case scenario they march me onto the stage and say "Read your Bible so you don't end up like that guy." Somehow God will make it work.

Since I've nothing else mind-blowing to say I will leave you with this. Yesterday my old roomie Troy, myself, and a few other friends went for a downhill mountain bike ride out east. Coming around a corner on my bike I nearly put my foot on about a 4 to 5 foot rattlesnake coiled up and catching the afternoon sun. After my heart rate dropped from 300 bpm I stopped to look at the thing. It was freakin' awesome - never made a sound. Then, as we made our way farther down the mountain and started to climb out of the the valley towards the end of the trail, I came around a corner and nearly ran over ANOTHER rattlesnake that was strewn across the trail. Snakes freaking fascinate me so I was stoked. I was also stoked neither one of them fastened itself to my bare leg. The stoke factor from an event like that would probably fall considerably. But anyway, it was cool and now I'm going to bed.

Chimin' in on a Good Day.

As crazy as I am sometimes my life actually runs pretty normal. Take today for example. Work was boring but functional (it lets me go to school at night). I came home and ran about 5 miles with the roomies, and then shot over to the ocean for a sunset surf session.

The surf is stupid big right now - at least for a novice like myself. We seem to be getting some sort of storm surge that is sending in the biggies. They are about the size of waves we only get in the winter. I dropped in on a few tonight but one of them OWNED me and I got rolled something fierce. The amount of water coming in behind them was pretty intense. I only ended up with a little cut on my shin from something - not sure what. In any case we caught a good sunset, the water was warm, and I threw down a couple of big waves. Good, good evening. Thank God.
